Yduqs obtains Carbon Neutral certification and strengthens its environmental commitment

The company offsets its total CO2e emissions generated by its activities by investing in two renewable energy projects. Nearly seven thousand tons of CO2e were acquired through the purchase of carbon credits

Yduqs, the only higher education company in the world to attain ESG leadership status by MSCI, has reached another significant milestone in its environmental commitment. After earning the Gold Seal from the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program (PBGHG) and joining the Public Registry of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GEE), Yduqs has officially become a carbon-neutral company.

This accomplishment was achieved through the complete offsetting of Greenhouse Gas (GEE) emissions related to the direct impacts of the company's activities (scopes 1 and 2). Yduqs chose to make investments in renewable energy, in the form of carbon credits, acquiring 6,895 tons of CO2e in two projects: the wind complexes Porto do Delta (4,496 tCO2e) in Piauí and Santa Clara (2,399 tCO2e) in Rio Grande do Norte, both located in the Northeast.

The compensation certificates, known as Carbon Credit Retirement, were issued on an official platform of the United Nations (UN) and are internationally recognized by the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). The compensation relates to the GEE emissions inventory for the year 2022.

"This certification reinforces our commitment to sustainability and the environment. At the same time, it is worth noting the company's remarkable maturity in environmental matters. We have been building an incredible legacy day by day with our tireless internal teams, who work on managing energy efficiency strategies, transitioning to renewable energies, carbon offsetting, sustainable waste management, awareness, and other fronts," comments Anderson Nogueira, Real Estate and Facilities Manager, who adds, "These are genuine measures that reinforce a culture of sustainability and eco-efficient practices aligned with the market's best practices."

By becoming a carbon-neutral company, Yduqs reinforces its commitment to calculate and monitor the total CO2e emissions generated by its activities. The practice of carbon credit compensation involves the preservation of natural resources and the reduction of temperature increases, playing an essential role in sequestering CO2e from the atmosphere.

Two specific projects were chosen for this purpose:

PROJECT 1: Wind Complex Porto do Delta
LOCATION: Parnaíba - Piauí
VOLUME: 4,496 tCO2e

PROJECT 2: Wind Complex Santa Clara
LOCATION: Rio Grande do Norte
VOLUME: 2,399 tCO2e

Continuous commitment:

Yduqs has significantly stood out in its trajectory of advancing sustainable practices in recent years. In 2020, the company successfully completed the Distributed Generation project in Rio de Janeiro, generating 190 MWh/month. In the following year, it initiated its Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GEE) inventory. In 2022, it intensified controls in Scopes 1 and 2, expanding the measurement of indirect emissions (Scope 3) and committing to expand this measurement throughout the value chain. Also, in 2022, Yduqs launched its 24 ESG goals, with 6 focused on the environmental agenda. In 2023, the company's greenhouse gas inventory underwent its first external audit, resulting in the achievement of the Gold Seal of the PBGHG Protocol and the neutralization of its emissions, making it a carbon-neutral company.

"We reaffirm our commitment to building a more sustainable future aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We continue to lead initiatives that have a very positive impact on both society and the environment. Recently, we became an ambassador for the Educa2030 Movement, strengthening our DNA, which is education and driving this pillar that will be vital in the UN's 2030 Agenda. As global leaders in ESG, recognized by MSCI, we not only follow standards but demonstrate them in practice. Our journey in the environmental agenda has evolved each year, and this is just the beginning; we are increasingly building the future in the present," says Nanny Faggiano, ESG, Institutional Partnerships, and Careers Director.

The compensation certificates are available on the official website of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Further details about Yduqs' environmental commitment can be accessed in the ESG Hub.
